Welcome to midsummer day – halfway point between…

sowing and harvest for farmers. June 24 this year marks this midway point in the growing season. All around the world there are festivals to commemorate this moment.

Pause and think of the food you’ll eat today – and appreciate the long journey it took to get to you. And think of the crops out there right now that are halfway there. This is the beauty of persistence – the recognition that the vital things that feed you are worth tending and waiting for.

Often our mind worries us into overaction, to try to push the crops to harvest too early. Perhaps today you can let the wisdom of the long growing season color how you view your progress on a project or whatever is important to you.

Welcome to your midsummer day. You are halfway to harvesting something wonderful. Stay patient and persistent and keep tending what you are passionate about daily. As Goethe said, “This is the highest wisdom that I own; freedom and life are earned by those alone who conquer them each day anew.” Here’s to your new midsummer day.
